120A - Summer 2008 (B)
Course grades

2008-09-16

Final grades were submitted to eGrades last night. They should be up for you soon, if they aren't already. The final distribution of grades was roughly what I had hoped it would be, after curving the final and midterm: the average grade was a 78.8 and the standard deviation was 15.78. The cutoffs and counts for the final grades were as follows:

Final Grade
Letter grade
0-50F
50-65D
65-75C
75-85B
85-100A

Your final exams will be available for review starting in the beginning of fall quarter if you wish. Please email me to set up a time.

On a final note; I will be moving this set of pages to my "Previous classes" section. If you want to refer to any of these at a later date, please look there.

Thanks for a good quarter!

Lecture 18 notes - CLT and some inequalities
Here are the class notes for lecture 18.  You will not be tested on this material, but it will be important if you take further statistics classes.

Lecture 17 notes - MGFs

Lecture notes on MGFs are here. For the test you need to know the definition of the MGF, how to use it to find expected values, and how to get the MGF of linear functions of random variables from the MGFs of the original random variables.

Extra problem solutions
Here are the solutions to the extra problems.

Correction to example problems
I accidentally posted an early draft of the practice problems.  Number 1 was supposed to be finding the CDF evaluated at a few points, while there were some normalization issues in one of the later ones.  The correct version has been posted and is available at the same link.  Solutions will be posted Monday.
